Personalized Wood Letters
Here is a short tutorial for a class I did for my girls and their friends over Fall break: (I regret not getting pics of all the finished letters!) Scroll down to see pics...
1) First, decide if you want a painted look or a
metallic look. If you want a painted look, use white gesso. If you want a
metallic pop look, use black gesso. If you want general texture, go to step
two. If not, apply a thin coat with card. Let dry a few minutes. If you want a
patterned texture, complete step 1, then go to step 3.
2) For a gritty texture, add sand to white or black
gesso.
3) To add patterned texture, spread modeling paste through
a stencil and/or
a.
Before spreading, you can change the color of
the modeling paste by mixing magicals powders (mix and spread with another
card) – only mix a tiny, tiny amount
OR
b.
After spreading modeling paste, quickly emboss
with embossing powders and heat gun. – ask me for help doing this because extra
powder is saved and put back into bottle.
PS – Clean stencil immediately after using- paints and pastes will stick
otherwise
4) Add embellishments – you can glue gems or cogs
or anything flat using gel medium.
a.
You can either color them before gluing them, or
leave them as is.
PS- Wipe away excess gel around
edges as much as possible.
5) Optional step is to use waxes or eye shadows to
make things pop.
a.
For waxes - Just use a card or brush to take out
some wax (not your hands) onto your plate, then use hands to rub on.
b.
For eye shadows, just use fingers.
