Beginner Patina Heart Canvas

1) Here I am setting up the initial design with the background stencil, a vintage paper doily that my mother-in-law gave me, and some wood hearts and a clay heart that I covered with patina paints.

The Lindy sprays I’m thinking of using are called Red Hot Poker Orange, Autumn Maple Crimson, Ethereal Emerald and Ponderosa Pines Olive. 3 out of 4 are from the Autumn Collection.

2)  I covered the canvas and the edges of the canvas with White gesso using a silicone brush. If you use a regular brush make sure to clean it immediately after, or it will get stuck on and ruin your brush.

3) Next I used light modeling paste through the stencil to create a textured background:

4) My first spray color from Lindy's was Ponderosa Pine Olive

I wanted to layer the sprays so I first needed to dry each layer of spray before I added another one. With the heat gun it takes 1-2 minutes.

 5) The next Lindy's color I sprayed was Autumn Maple Crimson. It’s such a pretty color but it covered a little too much of the green so I’m going back in with the first color after drying this layer.

6) The next step was to add the Ethereal Emerald Moonshadow mist- my favorite Lindy’s spray!

7) Next, I used the Red Hot Poker Orange Lindy’s spray for the vintage paper heart doily. This color is so beautiful because it leaves a golden tint which is hard to see from the pic.

I sprayed it in a shoe box lined with tissue paper to stop the spray from going everywhere. Then I set it in a paper dish to dry.

8)Next I glued on some embellishments that I painted with patina paints.

9) Then I rubbed some gold wax paste on the embellishments and on top of the stenciled background.

10) Then I used a metallic paint called old gold with a stencil brush through a stencil for the corners of the canvas.

11) Next, I went around the sides of the canvas with dark brown archival ink.

12) Finally, I went over that (sides of the canvas) with a metallic bronze paint to add shimmer.

Here's the final product on my wall!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
